Bluetooth Headsets

Bluetooth enabled headsets refer to a wireless sharing process, which allow the user to connect their headset to their mobile phone.  This process uses an accepted technology, which facilitates the sharing process called Bluetooth.  Bluetooth is a radio frequency, which allows devices to pair themselves.  This is how your headset “pairs” itself with you cell phone.  Most new phones today have the ability to pair with Bluetooth enabled devices.  In order to pair your cell phone with a headset or other Bluetooth device, you would need to have your cell phone perform a search for compatible devices.  You will also have to have these devices in a searchable  (discover) mode so your phone can discover them.  Upon finding a compatible device, your phone will usually require a PIN number.  The PIN is included with your devices instructions, and is usually 0000 but can vary depending on the device.  You would enter the PIN number and your devices are now connected.  So the next time you use your cell phone you can speak with your wireless headset vs. speaking directly into your phone.

Bluetooth, that’s a funny name.  What’s the story?

The name Bluetooth started off as a code name for the Bluetooth association.  The name is derived from a 10th Century Danish King named Harald Blatand. Translating this name into English gives you Harlard Bluetooth.  This Danish king was instrumental in united warring factions in Norway, Sweden & Denmark.  Hence the capability of King Harlard Bluetooth to induce an area of collaboration between disparate factions was the basis of the name for a technology which allows for electric devices such as cell phones which were previously unable to communicate to now share and exchange data for the benefit of the consumer.

Legislation and other Bluetooth features

In many places in North America there is now legislation, which requires car drivers to use a hands free device such as a headset or a car kit.  These devices allow the user to still use their cell phone while maintaining their focus on the road ahead.

The other benefit of Bluetooth enabled devices is the ability to synchronize calendars, contacts and to-dos.  Some devices even provide you with the capability of transferring photo’s via Bluetooth.  So now you can always sync with your laptop or computer to ensure your information is up to date.
